A/Prof John Bowman
John Bowman obtained his PhD from the University of Queensland and is an Associate Professor of Microbiology at the University of Tasmania. He is the Leader of the Centre of Food Safety and Innovation within the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture of the University of Tasmania. He has published 140 research articles in internationally peer reviewed journals in several areas of applied and basic microbiology including microbial ecology, food and industrial microbiology, food safety, stress physiology, functional genomics, and polar microbiology. He received the Australian Society of Microbiology Frank Fenner Award in Microbiology in 2002, and The Dean’s Award for Research Performance in 1999 and in 2005. His current interests include food production systems-related microbiology, food safety, food pathogen functional genomics, and cold-adapted bacteria.
