PURPOSE

The main purposes of the Bioinformatics SIG are:

  • To provide a platform for the active exchange of information on the application of computational approaches to microbial genomics;

  • To serve as a discussion forum for those interested in genomics and bioinformatic research;

  • Promote collaboration and data-sharing to support and enhance microbial research.

SCOPE

The SIG will focus on bioinformatics/genomics matters, including:

1.       Whole genome sequencing (WGS) applications in microbial genomics (isolate genomics, metagenomic, RNAseq etc).

2.       Development of bioinformatic software and analysis pipelines, including establishment of consensus on genotyping strategies.

3.       Strategies to support the integration of advanced computational methodologies, such as AI, into microbial research.

4.       Effective communication of bioinformatic results to a broad audience.

5.       Promotion of training opportunities in genomics/bioinformatics research and education.
